The 6 Fuse Electrical Business Planning System
In the words of the novelist Franz Kafka,
“Productivity is being able to do things that you were never able to do before.”
After years of brainstorming, implementing, failing and testing results in my own electrical contracting business, Response Electricians, I have devised these techniques which will power your life and unleash your potential. At least it did for me.
It is an action-oriented plan designed around the premise that if you put too much energy into any one fuse, it WILL blow eventually. I personally found myself 100% consumed by my work at the expense of my family, friends, social events, hobbies and everything else important to me.

I felt as though if I didn’t work my arse off, the business would crumble underneath my feet. It wasn’t until I laid out my life into the various categories and planned and set goals for each of them that I was able to maximise my performance at work resulting in huge growth and time for everything else that was important in my life.
And the first step is to outline the difference between a goal and a dream. A goal is action-based. It requires that you plan, schedule and implement.
So start with maintaining a Journal or a Daily Planner.
Take two pages of your Journal. Divide each page into three parts, so that you have a total of six sections. (See below for example)
Write the name of the month above it. Each of the six sections will cover an important aspect of your life:
#1 Work & Finance
As I said above, my Electrical Business literally consumed my mind and body of my daily life. And the only way I could switch off and relax … was to have a drink.
During these years, I was working 16 hours a day. So you can guess that I didn’t have time for people and things that mattered the most. After a while, I finally realised that it is a choice.
I am happy to share that I also defined my idea of success: To have a self-sufficient electrical business so that I had the freedom so that I worked because I want to and not because I have to.
Likewise, our Operation Manager, Kirk Neal, took up a bit too much while managing the various Electrical Contractors and Electricians. It created pressure on him, which he later defused by implementing these fuses.
How are work and finance affecting your life? It is time to analyse how you spend your time. Read more about how to set up your six fuses on the academy.
